The Open Cafe fuses the age old tradition of the potluck with the contemporary Open Source movement to share company, food, drink, and more in a community environment created anew with every day. A wiki page maintained by your community describes a day's menu and schedule of events for a physical location in your area. An Open Pantry stores donated food for preparation. You, the participant, can establish a location, use the wikis as you see fit, anytime, day or night. In a sentence, wikis organize online for the experience offline.
It is the web and emerging read/write culture that brings the activity of the Open Cafe to life. Self organizing communities will soon drive all forms of organization. The Open Cafe is but a taste of an abundant way of living, one person and one Cafe at a time. Get to know and enjoy your neighbors by starting a Cafe today! It can begin with the simplicity of an Open Picnic.
Is there something you'd like to talk about? It could be something of exceptional importance, like deciding whether to have less or more Christmas decorations on your town square. In a band and want to get more exposure? Create a musical event starting with the time, type of music, and how long you intend to jam. Single and like Anime? Throw a Single's Night Anime viewing!
Did you discover no coffee—the almighty nectar of the Gods—on Sunday? Fill in the blank by listing the type of Coffee and quantity you bring on the day's menu. You see that sandwiches are on the menu, but would like potato chips with the meal, so you add a bag or two to the wiki at the mentioned time.
The community donates food to prepare here. Donate to your local pantry or become an Open Cafe Chef. The Pantry is essential to keeping the Open Cafe a cost free and community supported experience. Its also a way to go out to eat without the markup and social alienation!

The Open Cafe Experience
The Cafe location in your area may begin with the simplicity of an Open Picnic at the local park. The location may change from time to time at first and later form into a central location with increased involvement. Central locations can be larger in size and have the resources to "compete" with commercial Cafe's by opening daily. Upstarts with only a few participants at launch may want to gather every other week, increasing at the rate of participation. Forming in this manner can prevent burnout as life demands both variety and consistency.
Each Cafe wiki comes standard with a Menu Calendar, Event Calender, Pantry, and Journal. Calenders are organized by you and other members. Take a look at each wiki to observe what others are sharing to get an idea of what variety to add to the experience. Organize and create other wikis as you see fit.
